Motion Title: Adopt CompSoc's formal name from before de-registration
Proposer: Declan Osborne
Description: Once upon a time, in a temporal interval far, far away, the CompSoc was named differently. Prior to our de-registration by the University and the Internominum, CompSoc was formally referred to as the 'Oxford University Computing and Technology Society'. However, throughout the Internominum, we lost permission to use the University's name and were forced to rebrand as the 'Oxford Computing and Technology Society'. Since re-registering, we have once again acquired permission to use the University's name, allowing us to correct this grievous injustice.
If passed at the Termly General Meeting, this motion will necessitate the following change to Paragraph 1 of the Society's Constitution.
Current Version: 1. The Club is called the Oxford Computing and Technology Society (hereafter referred to as “the Club”). The Club’s objects are the support, development, improvement and promotion of the use of computing, technology and programming in the University of Oxford insofar as such objects are charitable; and the income and property of the Club shall be applied solely to those objects.
Amended Version: 1. The Club is called the Oxford University Computing and Technology Society (hereafter referred to as “the Club”). The Club’s objects are the support, development, improvement and promotion of the use of computing, technology and programming in the University of Oxford insofar as such objects are charitable; and the income and property of the Club shall be applied solely to those objects.
This motion was discussed at the 2026 Trinity Term General Meeting, please see the minutes for more details.
